my defences systematically failed to withstand

I'm not the kinda person who knew her way with words. Often times, I find it kinda hard to tell others through words what I really feel. Which is why I have this unspeakable envy towards certain people. People like Eddie Vedder or Bruce Springsteen, just to name a few. Now those were the men who knew their way with words.

I still remember the very first time I ever listened to Pearl Jam's Black song. [lyrics] This particular verse just puts me in entrance, pokes me in the eyes and stabs me right into the core of my heart with its words :

I know someday you'll have a beautiful life
I know you'll be a star
In somebody else's sky, but why
Why, why can't it be
Why can't it be mine?

But the true strength of this song does not solely lies in the words, but it also the way Eddie sings them so painfully melancholic and achingly beautiful - that manages to convey the fragility of emotions that's centered around the song. I'm glad Pearl Jam has decided not to release Black into a single because if they did, the song will be crushed by the meaningless commercialism and raw feeling of the song would be lost along the way. This song is way too personal and precious for that.

Another song that seems to capture my 'emotional train wreck' moment is The Darkness' Love Is Only A Feeling. Though it doesn't exactly on par with Pearl Jam's Black, the lyrics speaks volume of the sweetness and naivety of a person's first love. Strangely poignant because all through out the lines by lines of words, Justin Hawkins keeps painting innocently sweet memories of being in love for the first time whilst contrasting it with love is only a feeling. And you probably won't realized the song is actually about a heartbreak until you come to the last verse. The we've got to stop ourselves believing it's here to stay, cause love is only a feeling finally gives it away. It is the kind of song that you would hear while looking out at the window for the falling rain... and see nothing but the rain as far as the eyes can see. Absolute beautiful.
